SCREW YOU!
This was the difficult third album. I was at that place where my identity was tangible and I think I tried to force it. Screw You, the song, was amusing and scathing and aimed at my usual target in the Whitehouse, but now I would leave it off the album. Why? It was just the wrong side of angry. I should have stuck it in a dark cupboard and let it mature with time.
I was still delving into my poetry; you will find Walking On Wood cropping up in a few guises along the way, mainly because I was never quite satisfied that I had hit the nail on the head until the last iteration.
Of course, there was Father, a song dedicated to my father. I did not want to get lachrymose and sugary, I just wanted to say thank you. Perhaps that should have gone into the cupboard for a while too, but I don’t think it would have benefited from it. I think I got away with it as a song and, as a sentiment, it was all I could want.
